Success from Focus
In early 2022, a concerted effort to prematurely end what was then known as the CMMI Direct Contracting model took hold in Washington, DC. Many organizations had invested significant resources into the model, but were not only caught unprepared for the necessary advocacy, but unorganized.
While some advocacy groups brought together organizations committed to the model, a single entity dedicated solely to the priorities of early stage or growth companies did not exist to stand up for their unique priorities.
Thankfully, Direct Contracting was eventually preserved as ACO REACH, but the experience demonstrated the critical importance of preparation, organization and collective advocacy.
The Coalition For Healthcare Innovation Has Two Major Goals:
Create a favorable macro environment for both value-based care and early-stage, innovative healthcare companies
Leverage the data, experience, outcomes, and impact of our mission-driven member organizations to positively impact people and drive health policy outcomes
The Coalition’s Federal Advocacy Priorities Include:
Ensuring The CMMI Kidney Care Choices Model has an adequate transition period and to engage stakeholders in developing an improved future full risk model for CKD/ESRD and nephrologists
Ensuing the ACO REACH Model has an adequate transition period while engaging with all stakeholders to ensure an improved full risk primary care successor model is established
Supporting Medicaid policies, incentives and resources that expand access, improve outcomes and reduce costs for beneficiaries by advancing value-based care models
Improving quality metrics and the range of value-based care models including in oncology, cardiology, models focused on high risk beneficiaries dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, and cost savings
